Several months back, my daughter and I went to the Alameda Flea Market to look for vintage textiles and perhaps gather some design inspiration.

When she spotted a 1970’s woven fabric remnant, she was reminded of a similar texture used as a wall hanging in a room featured by one of her favorite bloggers.

It has been hanging in my studio since November. Today I was sorting and organizing the studio (I would like to say that this sort of thing happens more often than it does). Have you ever read that book “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie?” It’s about a little mouse who keeps getting distracted at the task at hand. Let’s be honest, as organized as I am, I am sometimes that little mouse. Organizing task on hold – it’s time to make a wall hanging!

Being a fragile, vintage, loose weave, I decided it was too delicate to survive a journey through my industrial sewing machine. Hand stitching it is. I stitched a rod pocket along the top of the fabric, slid a dowel through it, and voila! A wall hanging!

I have to say, I am delighted with the end result! What a fun way to reuse and repurpose vintage textiles.
